Those of you who follow me on Instagram may have noticed that I've been working on a lettering project. It's nothing fancy: each day I take a letter from the alphabet and fill a page with different variations on it. It came about after I began reading "The Creative Habit" by Twyla Tharp. In it, she discusses the need to develop rituals, and it's these rituals become a catalyst of sorts for creativity. With my schedule, I knew I couldn't commit to anything very large or time consuming each day, so I turned to one of my loves: lettering. It does not take a lot of effort to complete a page each day, and I can do it anywhere I want, so long as I keep my journal with me.
In my previous post I wrote about being overwhelmed with life. I believe part of it is the pressure I place upon myself to keep creativity as a constant in my life. This has really helped me feel as though I'm exercising my creative muscles. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a way to squeeze some creative time into your day.
If you do follow me on Instagram, you'll notice I haven't posted anything for about a week. I mentioned before that my best friend is getting married very soon. Because of that, I've been up to my ears in craft projects for her wedding and also her bridal shower. Though it's been great to immerse myself in so many projects, I've missed creating for myself, so you can be sure I'll be picking the pen back up tonight.
Great idea Christen. I think you should get them printed....I would love to use them for bubble charms. Ciao Rita

Your lettering is absolutely gorgeous! And I love the idea of this being a ritual activity (that Twyla Tharp book is great, isn't it?).

What a great idea, something I´m going to do to. I always carry my sketch book with me and on a boring meeting I can practice lettering.
